John Mascavage, David Pumpelly, John Brislin's:
Visit to East Africa

- Hike to Mweka Camp -

Brislin en route to Mweka Camp.

Journal:

"September 11, 1998 - The Summit Attempt (cont)- When we finally reach camp, Dave and John tell me I have 30 minutes to get ready and then we head on to Mweka Camp.  I rest for a moment, pack up, have a cup of orange soda, and begin the hike down.  The hike is entirely downhill and my knees hurt trying to control my speed.  Dave and John had gone ahead, but Éle and I speed up and arrive at camp only 30 minutes after them.  Since midnight we have hiked about 15 hours, we are completely exhausted and go to sleep right after dinner.  Tomorrow we will leave the mountain."

The trail is lined with small trees on either side, not much taller than me - it is fun to rush/run downhill following the path.
